Tracy Hines

Nine Racing Driver 1997

Tracy Hines drove the #9 midget to victory four times with Nine Racing in 1997, and finished second in the USAC National Midget Series point standings that year. In April of 1997, he won events at Winchester Speedway and Salem Speedway; in June, he won at Anderson Speedway; and in July, he claimed victory at Indianapolis Raceway Park.

Born into a racing family, Tracy made his USAC National Midget Car Series debut in 1993, earning four top-10 finishes during the season. Prior to his debut, Tracy was named the Indianapolis Speedrome Rookie of the Year after an eighth place finish in the USAC Speedrome Midget Car Series.

Some of Tracy’s achievements include USAC National Midget Series Most Improved Driver (1996), USAC Sprint Car Series Rookie of the Year (1998), USAC Silver Crown Series Champion (2000), National Midget Driver of the Year (2001), and USAC National Sprint Car Series Champion (2002).

Tracy’s Craftsman Truck Series debut came in late 2003 as he competed in the final three events of the season. The 2005 racing season proved to be Tracy’s most successful, as he earned a fifth-place finish at Richmond International Raceway. On the open wheel racing scene, Tracy won his first O’Reilly Chili Bowl Midget Nationals title in 2005 at Tulsa Expo Raceway.

In 2006, Tracy drove in both the NASCAR and open wheel ranks. Starting 11 Busch Series races, he claimed a season-best finish of 13th in the Sharpie Mini 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway. In open wheel competition, Tracy became one of two competitors to win in all three USAC divisions in 2006. His victories included two triumphs in USAC Silver Crown Series competition, two wins in the USAC National Sprint Car Series, and a victory in the midget portion of the USAC 4-Crown Nationals event at Eldora Speedway.

Tracy made his return to USAC racing in November 2007 at Phoenix International Raceway, and kicked off the 2007 season with strong starts in the USAC National Sprint and Midget Car Series before suffering several injuries in an off-road accident on his Indiana property in April.

On May 17, 2008, Tracy recorded the fastest ever midget car lap on an asphalt quarter mile at Slinger Super Speedway when he ran a 10.845 second qualifying lap. This season, he is competing full time in the USAC National Sprint Car, Midget and Silver Crown Series for Tony Stewart Racing.
