Garrett Jones Earns Test With Nine Racing
Brownsburg, Indiana (July 11, 2011) — Young Garrett Jones, of West Palm Beach, Florida, was the victor at the USAC MOPAR “Battle at the Brickyard” held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, this weekend. Winning the Honda Light 160 Championship awarded him the Nine Racing Test in a Ford Focus Midget.
“We congratulate Garrett on his impressive win in the Lt. 160 Honda class at the USAC .25 Brickyard event,” said Nine Racing Team Owner Steve Lewis. “We are honored to be able to offer Garrett a test in our Nine Racing #9 Ford Focus midget in the near future.”
Garrett started racing karts in 2004, but his family quickly transitioned into quarter midgets in 2006. Garrett’s first Honda Lt. 160 win came in 2008 when he and his family borrowed a car for the event. He currently runs three classes at all of the USAC MOPAR .25 Midget “Generation Next” events: Honda Light 160, Briggs Senior Animal and Briggs Light World Formula.
Garrett currently drives an NC Chassis with an Ultra Shield Seat. Larry, his dad, is a huge proponent of teaching his son to drive a .25 Midget as he would other race cars. While many drivers in the series ‘lean out,’ Garrett proves you can win sitting in a seat.
“I feel like Garrett has grown a lot this year by racing in the USAC Series,” commented Larry Jones.
The commitment has been huge for the Jones Family. They have never missed a USAC national event in 2010 and 2011, having traveled from the east to the west, including Phoenix, New Mexico and California, back south for Nashville and North Carolina and north to Ohio, Milwaukee and Hagerstown, Maryland.
This week was Round 9 of the National Series at Indy. “I think it was really cool to win Lt. 160 here at the Brickyard,” said Garrett Jones.
“We appreciate the opportunity that Nine Racing has offered us,” added Larry. “Winning is great at any event, but it has special meaning at the Brickyard.”
Garrett currently leads the USAC MOPAR “Generation Next” National Series Points in Honda Lt. 160. Along with his win at the Brickyard in Honda Light 160 this weekend, he finished 3rd in Briggs Light World Formula and 5th in Briggs Senior Animal. He holds wins at six of the nine National events this season: two in Honda Light 160, one in Briggs Senior Animal and three in Briggs Light World Formula
